Family Practice and OMT

Dr. Ismael Beloso is a board certified family physician with a supplemental specialty in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).  OMT involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, Dr. Beloso systematically moves your muscles and joints using proven techniques such as stretching, gentle pressure and resistance ~ all designed to bring balance to the body and rejuvenate the affected body part.

Your personal experience at the inclusive medical practice at Changes Medical and Wellness Spa of Orlando begins with a comprehensive review of your medical history and health goals, moves to the treatment of acute and/or chronic conditions, and concludes with a focus on prevention and education.

What is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine?

Physicians who practice OMT are Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs).  Both DOs and MDs are fully licensed physicians. They provide a full menu of services, ranging from prescribing drugs to performing surgery, and they use the latest medical tools. But DOs offer something special ~ their unique approach to patient care. They:

  • Teach patients how to prevent illness and injury by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Look at the whole person to reach a diagnosis without focusing just on symptoms.
  • Help the body to heal itself.
  • Believe that all parts of the body work together and influence one another.  DOs are specially trained in the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system (muscles and bones).
  • Perform osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).

If you have never been treated by a D.O. before, you may have questions regarding what to expect. A typical office visit to a Doctor of Osteopathic Manipulation includes four stages:  Interview, Exam, Diagnosis, and Treatment.

Interview

The D.O. will talk with you about your medical history. In addition, you will be asked about such factors as your home, work, lifestyle and family life.

Exam

Your D.O. will do a complete physical exam. If necessary, tests will be ordered. The physician will do a structural exam, which starts by checking your posture, spine, and balance. The D.O. will use fingers to physically examine your back, hands, and feet, sensing any acute or chronic health conditions.  A similar examination of your joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments will help the physician diagnose any irregularities.

Diagnosis

The D.O. will consider the results of the interview and exam and will determine, in his best medical opinion, what may be causing your symptoms.

Treatment

The doctor will develop a customized treatment plan that will address the personal health issues diagnosed during the examination, taking into account your medical history
